Archive for March, 2010

Yes, I know it’s been forever, but I’ve had a lot going on. Honestly, there’s good reasons why I haven’t blogged in almost a month.

I found out 3 weeks ago that not only did I fracture my left humerus (shoulder) in 3 places, but I had also fractured my right radius (wrist bone) in the fall on 9 February. That explained why it kept hurting so much. I was lucky that I didn’t hurt it further with all the activity I was doing — pretty much everything, since my dominant arm was trapped in a sling — and was healing properly. I have to wear a brace at times, like when I type, to keep it stable so it continues to heal.

One of the reasons I haven’t blogged is that typing has been uncomfortable, and I needed to save all my typing for work. I’ve barely touched my computer at home during all this time.

Things weren’t easy, but at least I was driving again and getting enough done at work that I wasn’t getting behind. Well, that was until I got a cold and had to suffer through that for a week. Basically all I did was sleep and go to work. Oh, and taking meds to help alleviate some of the symptoms like coughing and congestion.

Then I got word on 11 March that I could stop wearing the sling and start physical therapy on 18 March. Hooray!! Finally I could start using my left arm again, albeit somewhat limited.

Yeah, that was the plan, right up until I woke up around 4 am on the 18th with a stomach virus from hell. Instead of starting my day off with my first physical therapy session, I spent it in the bathroom getting progressively worse. By late afternoon on that Thursday, I was near incapacitated, barely able to keep anything down. I thought maybe it would be a 24 hour thing, but no luck there. According to my doctor’s office, something is going around causing 3-4 days of diarrhea and nausea and vomiting. Oh what fun. I spent Friday in bed, doped up on Imodium (which was finally working) and Phenergan (so I could keep water down and stay hydrated) and running a fever of 101F.

Now it’s Sunday, and I’m only now able to eat anything other than rice or applesauce. Grilled cheese sandwich never tasted so good.

I blame all my health stuff on the multiple fractures — my body and immune system has been focused on healing, been stressed out, and viruses take advantage of that.

Sorry if this is more information than you ever wanted, Dear Reader, but that’s what been going on with me the last few weeks.
