Happy birthday to me, and all the other turkey babies out there.
May you have birthday cake instead of pumpkin pie with candles, birthday presents the day of your birthday instead of combo birthday-Christmas gifts or because someone wanted to get it on sale a few days later.
Oh, and many, many birthdays that don’t fall [...]

Last Hours

I’m putting Trooper to sleep this afternoon.
Part of me — an integral aspect of who I am — is about to go missing, never to be recovered, and I feel a great deal of grief for its absence, even before the fact.
Part of me feels peace about it all, because I know (I KNOW) [...]
Has It Really Been That Long?

From my brother’s email:
Over two weeks and no blog update? I thought I would have some backlogs to keep me busy after my trip.
Does this count?
Don’t worry, Dear Reader, I got things to say – just haven’t had a whole lot of time to do it lately. I’ll catch you up soon.
Giant Microbes

All the talk of swine flu and vaccines reminded me of Giant Microbes, producers of some of the Big Black Dog’s favorite toys. I believe BBD is partial to Ebola and Sleeping Sickness. C. diff had to be retired due to unrepairable holes.

From Life Magazine: 30 Dumb Inventions.
I don’t know, some of those seem kinda cool, like illuminated tires. It’s a wonder those don’t make a comeback.

I hope I can be alert [...]

Yeah, that’s all I got today. Sorry, work and other life things have been keeping me busy. I promise to do better from now on.
Yay For Long Weekends!

I know, I never call, I never write. Or at least I haven’t written in a few days. Give a girl a break. I’ve had things to do. Social things. Okay, also house things like cleaning and laundry, but also fun things like hanging out and eating yummy food. Girl’s got to have a life [...]
Oh Mondays…

You might think Mondays are just lovely, but I’m here to tell you, I think Mondays inherently suck. Case in point:
I had a migraine coming on last night, took my meds — that worked just peachy — yet Monday morning I feel the migraine coming back. Might need to take another dose.
I was awakened before [...]
How You Can Tell When Vandy Students Are Back
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged students, undergrads, vanderbilt, vanderbilt university on Monday, 24 August 2009 | 1 Comment »
It’s nearing the end of summer, which means all the students are getting back to school. Since I work at and live near Vanderbilt, I can always tell when the students, especially undergrads, are back in town. Here are some observations:
Pajama bottoms become acceptable clothing in public.
Places are packed at lunchtime. Like yesterday at Provence [...]
